5 Discipline for Success
Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most — Abraham Lincoln
1. Discipline of Focus
Ronaldo says that “My game level has been the best in the last 15 years. Consistently giving your top performance means that you only have a 0.1% erring scope. You have to keep training, emotion, diet on one target.”
He further added “I believe I play well, but my real strength is my mind. I can always keep focus of my mind and body towards my goal. Apart from winning & improving myself, there is no other idea in my mind.”
Discipline of focus says that “You focus your mind towards a goal and do not allow any other kind of thought to come to mind, except its success and the hard work it takes.”
2. Discipline of Goal Setting
As per one survey, only 3% of professionals are able to complete the goals they have made every day. It is clear from the survey that how easily you can separate from the crowd with goal-completion discipline.
Michael Phelps says that “For me, success means completing goals. Me and my coach used to make small goals from training and chasing every goal until it was completed. ”
Discipline of Goal Setting says that “It is easy to make goals. But if you don’t know how you track the progress, you will never be able to complete the goal.”
Take an example. Suppose I have to finish one article of 3000 words. I know that in every 1 hours I can write up to 500 words. Also I will take half hour break after each hour. So it takes me to at least 8.5 hours to finish article. If I will not track my progress on every 1.5 hours, I will never be able to meet target.
Unless you have a process to track goals, you won’t even be able to track the progress. If you are really serious, write a process to complete your goals and track that process every day.
3. Discipline of Showing up
Colonel Sanders faced failure throughout his life. He was fan of cooking and feeding. He changed many jobs, worked in many companies. When they opened restaurant, The World War began & caused him huge losses. He had to close the restaurant. After that, he opened hotel by borrowing money & it took a fire at the hotel.
Despite all of these shortcomings, he succeeded because he had the discipline of working every day. He did not deviate from any kind of damage, accident or bad luck, which led him to set up KFC.
When there is a huge loss, when you do not have a job, when you fail, when no one buys your goods, there is a rich disappointment every morning. Does not feel like getting up from bed.
Here comes the discipline of showing up, which says that “Whatever happened yesterday, you will do your job honestly today. 80% success is to showing up.”
After winning the 2019 Rome Masters, Rafael Nadal says that “Sometimes you lose one final after another. Sometimes you have to leave the match in the middle due to injury. But you go to court every day and practice every day. When you have these disciplines, you and everyone around you know that you will start working every day. Then you don’t have to put energy and time to motivate yourself every day, so you have time to learn new strategy & new skills.”
4. Discipline of Elimination
After World War Two, Japan’s engineering and production were lagging behind the world. But the quality of Japanese products increased five times more than American products in 1975. That means, there was five times less defects and the time to make was reduced by three times. So what happened in 30 years that Japan’s engineering went 15 times ahead of the US?
Answer is “Kaizen” means “Constant removal of mistakes”.
There was only one goal of the Japanese workers and the managers. Do not make a mistake. It was not a warning to the workers but an inspiration. Whatever it is, change process, put alarm or mark on wall, but remove that mistake.
Discipline of Elimination says that “To improve, you see which habit or deficiency is preventing you and completely eliminate it. By doing so, You can increase your progress with same effort.”
5. Discipline of Deep Thinking
Mark Cuban says that “I meet the best investors and managers of Silicon Valley. They have a lot of knowledge. They can debate on from history, politics macroeconomics to genetic engineering. But they live in their zone. They do not allow their thought energy to scatter. They do not act towards gossip, sport and news. So that these people can think deeply about the same problem and bring new innovations.”
Discipline of deep thinking says that “You choose which question you have to solve. Then apply your entire focus on that thinking.”
With this discipline practice, you will wonder how many of ways your subconscious can respond to you.
